Twelve Routines, Twelve Qualifications at DanceStar

23 October 2026 3 min read Kryptonite Dance Academy

Kryptonite entered twelve routines at the DanceStar South Africa Qualifier at Gold Reef City from 9 to 11 October, and all twelve qualified for the DanceStar World Dance Masters in 2027.

Twenty-two dancers competed. Eight of the twelve routines finished in the top three of their category: four first places, two seconds and two thirds. Six qualified into the A League and six into the B League.

How the scoring works

DanceStar scores each routine out of 120. A score of 85 or better enters the A League and 60 or better enters the B League. Both leagues qualify for the World Dance Masters, so a B League qualification is a qualification.

Qualification is not the same as entry. Going to the World Dance Masters means buying a DanceStar package, and that decision belongs to each family. Scores are also not comparable between categories, because a Youth solo is judged against a different field from a Seniors group.

The results

Our Youth soloist took first in that category with 93 out of 120, in the A League. Our Juniors soloist took first with 86, also A League. Our Children duo won with 85 in the A League, and Dollhouse Rebellion won the Children group in the B League with 69.

Kryptonite Gents placed second in the Seniors quartet with 92 in the A League, and our second Juniors soloist placed second in the B League with 75. Double Trouble placed third in the Seniors quartet with 85 in the A League, and 4idden placed third in the Youth quartet B League with 70.

Four more routines qualified. Kryptonite Rouge placed fourth in the Seniors group A League with 91. Clown Attaq placed seventh, tied, in the Seniors solo B League with 75. Savage² placed sixth in the Seniors quartet B League with 65, and our third Juniors soloist placed fifth, tied, in the B League with 65.

Three routines, three wins

One dancer entered three routines and won all three: the Juniors solo, the Children duo and Dollhouse Rebellion. Two of the three went into the A League. It is the kind of weekend a young dancer remembers for years, and it came from a term of ordinary Tuesday and Saturday classes.

First time on a competition stage

One half of the Children duo had never competed before, and left with two first places. The rest of Dollhouse Rebellion were also new to a competition stage, which means that Children group title was won by dancers doing it for the first time.

A Youth dancer in a Seniors crew

One of our Youth dancers stepped into Kryptonite Rouge, entered as a Seniors group. Rouge scored 91 out of 120, qualified into the A League and placed fourth. Dancing up an age group is harder than it looks: the counts are faster and the formations leave less room for a late hit.

What it took

Twenty-two dancers, twelve routines, and one weekend at Gold Reef City. Mentors built and cleaned every routine, and parents made sure the dancers got to class through the term. Both are part of this result.

If your child wants to be on a stage, start in a class. Beginner and Kidz are open enrolment, and the timetable is on the classes page. Message 082 572 9407.
